One of the greatest animated movies ever made, The Lion King–aka Hamlet with lions–holds a special place in many people’s hearts. It’s easy to see why the titular lions captivate human imagination. These regal animals move in small fiefdoms–prides–as they stalk prey and look out upon their wild kingdom of the African savanna. It’s a brutal, scrappy life for lions despite popular depictions of their hunts, where they leave empty handed/hungry or with fatal injuries (like a broken jaw from an antelope’s kick). But we remain enamored by these lords of the Serengeti, struggling their way to survive as top level predators of their environment. Solemn eyes seem to betray a certain thoughtfulness in these savage, sleepy brutes. Sphinx-like harbingers of danger and mystery, these animals make a perfect subject for our soft Triblend T-shirts.
This lion is captured in a side profile, seemingly looking out upon the bounties of the Serengeti plains. His smaller mane seems to suggest a younger male, still battling to prove his mettle. What’s he thinking? What’s he stalking? Good questions for any would-be feline observer. This work features a highly detailed ink drawn realistic aesthetic with an entire web of thin pen strokes used to suggest the details of a lion’s head. Contoured hatching of the line work creates the hairy, flowing texture of the lion’s fur, each group of marks aligned in flowing directions that is particularly noticeable in the mane portion. Although the piece eschews the use of color, the ample use of varying line weight, length, and hatching creates plenty of three-dimensionality. The monochromatic coloring focuses your attention on the forms themselves, highlighting the technical details of the line art. In a way, the art form is as stoic and brutalist as the lion itself.
Like cats? How about big cats? Or just enigmatic predators, wandering icons of the African wilderness? This shirt captures the spirit of a young lion, a fierce warrior brooding gently on his continued survival in a harsh world. If you love these royal creatures and their mythos, this is one shirt you’ll be happy to rock everywhere you wander. These light colored tops with dark colored artwork work well for warmer (safari?) weather or if you’re going for something more understated.
This design is made for our light colored Triblend T-shirts. We also offer an inverted color design for dark colored T-shirts, as well as a colored version for those looking for something a little more funky.
This roughly triangular shaped print is centered on the chest and measures about 14 inches x 13 inches.

How to Care for Your Sweet ShirtMachine wash cold inside out to protect the print, no bleach. Pretreatment may remain on your made-to-order shirt which will add a harder, rougher texture (it's to help the print look good), the first wash will remove it and make everything nice and soft. Tumble dry low. Iron low, but avoid print.
